Pedigree Details

Sire:  Sombrero   (Julio Mariner xx / Le Mexico / Voltaire)

Sombrero is a very elegant refined sport horse by the thoroughbred stallion Julio Mariner xx

Julio Mariner’s show jumping qualities are confirmed by scores of products performing in international show jumping.  Dinky Toy (Michael Whitaker), Harley (Bruce Goodin), Marinero (Gilbert de Rooch), Eurocommerce Lima (Gerco Shroder), Ingmar (Stevie Macken) and Resolute (Molly Ashe) are just a few examples.

Julio Mariner xx was approved in 7 studbooks, including KWPN, Holstein, Hannover and Oldenburg.  He was praised by breeders for his eagerness and excellent jumping technique and is one of the best thoroughbred sires in Dutch breeding.  Indeed, technique, reflexes and alertness characterise both the jumping manners of Julio Mariner xx and those of his offspring.

Sombrero’s dam line is exceptional combining the bloodlines of the proven performance sires of the “keur” awarded Le Mexico; Voltaire who has more than 40 licensed sons and ranks among the best sires in the world; the progenitor and confirmation sire Amor; and the legendary Lucky Boy.

His dam, Felaleen, features as one of the leading mares of the Netherlands.  Her half sister, Kyraleen, sire Quidam de Revel, was European Champion for Young Riders in 2003 and German National Champion for Young Riders the same year.  Kyraleen’s son, Pythagoras, sire Julio Mariner xx was approved by KWPN and was one of the most impressive young stallions in Holland, but died as a 4 year old of colic.  Half brother to Felaleen and full brother to Kyraleen is Leendert, an approved stallion in Denmark.  Half sister to Felaleen is Nela Heleen, sire Guidam, who produced Sir Neel, by Darco, an approved stallion in Poland.

Sombrero competed in some novice classes in Holland before coming to Ireland midway through the 2004 show jumping season.  He was quick to accumulate a large number of points and attracted a lot of interest competing in classes up to 1.20/1.30m.  During 2005 he will combine competition and stud duties in his first public season at stud.

Sombrero is a very athletic stallion with great temperament and character.  His movement, presence and thoroughbred lines will appeal equally to show horse producers.

Breeders have the option of either an Irish Horse Board or Anglo European Studbook passport for Sombrero’s offspring.  He has surpassed all of the veterinary requirements for both studbooks, as well as the KWPN; and is EVA and OCD free.

DamSire:  00 Seven    (Rubenstein 1  -  Doruto  -  Amor)

He was described as a "Genetic dressage ace with an appealing type and light-footed movement with much impulsion, self carriage and balance.  Unique combination of bloodlines thanks to first rate sires such as Rubinstein I and Doruto, the world's best producer of dressage horses".
